WACO QDC NC11244

NC11244 (S/N 3455) was signed once in the Grand Central Air Terminal (GCAT) Register, Saturday, May 30, 1931 at 11:30AM. Tower Operator A.J. Lygum did not identifiy the pilot's name, but he did note one unidentified passenger. He did not record where the airplane came from or where it was going.

It was manufactured by the Waco Aircraft Company, Troy, OH and finished on April 3, 1931. The manufacturer's specifications as it came from the factory are below, courtesy of Andy Heins (cited, left sidebar). The airplane was modestly equipped with basic instrumentation. It was painted black and gold. I have no photographs of NC11244. If you can help with photos, please let me KNOW.

It appears to have had a major issue regarding quality, because it was recalled to the factory and "rebuilt completely" in accordance with directions from the Waco engineering department. Over a year after it was manufactured, on August 15, 1932, it was transferred to the Continental Aircraft Engine Company, Detroit, MI. A couple of months later it was transferred to E.A. Nelson who appears to have kept it through WWII.

It was destroyed by fire May 20, 1946, location not specified.Today NC11244 is not assigned to any aircraft in the FAA database, nor does it have a Web presence.
