KREUTZER K-5 TRANSPORT NC243M

NC243M was a Kreutzer K-5 Transport (S/N 110). It flew behind three Kinner engines of 100 HP each. Photograph, left, courtesy of the Klein Archive of Aviation Photographs mounted on the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register Web site.

NC243M was a prolific visitor at Glendale. It landed nine times between December 23, 1930 and April 14, 1931. It was owned by the Kinner Motors Company, and on April 8, 1931 at 4:38PM the tower Operator noted in the remarks column of the Register, "test hop" and "first time up."

This flight probably represents the first time aloft after installation of the Kinner engines, which probably replaced either Velie or LeBlonde engines. According to aerofiles.com, the original Joseph Kreutzer Corporation, based at Santa Monica, CA, was an early victim of the Great Depression. Operations were suspended in 1931. It was later reorganized as the Air Transport Manufacturing Company in 1935.

NC243M also landed four times at Tucson, AZ flown by three different pilots, Lee V. Brusse, Paul T. Adams and Robert Porter. Its technography is online at the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register Web site at the link.
