LOCKHEED VEGA NC309H

NC309H was a Lockheed Vega Model 5 Executive (S/N 80) manufactured during June, 1929 by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, Burbank, CA. The Executive models differed from regular Vegas in that they had installed a folding work desk, a typewriter and a toilet. Regardless, NC309H was a frequent visitor at Glendale. It landed there 18 times between December 21, 1930 and May 13, 1931.

NC309H was owned by Senator (1933-38) William Gibbs McAdoo of Los Angeles, CA. Although the pilot was not identified for any of the 18 landings, McAdoo's pilot was Harry Ashe. Please direct your browser to his link for information about him, McAdoo, and McAdoo's daughter, Ellen, who was a frequent passenger with her father.

Besides its 18 landings at Glendale, NC309H visited Clover Field four times (each time flown by pilot Ashe) and it is signed into the Davis-Monthan Register twice. Its technography is online at the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register Web site at the link. McAdoo sold the airplane to a Mexican airline company in 1935. It was damaged in Mexico ca. 1939-40 and removed from the registry.
