FOKKER F-10 NC5170

NC5170 was a Fokker F-10, S/N 1001. It was entered three times in the Grand Central Air Terminal (GCAT) Register by tower Operator A.J. Lygum. It was one of the workhorse transport aircraft operated between Los Angeles and San Francisco by Western Air Express (WAE) and then T.W.A. It was first recorded on Monday December 15, 1930. It was flown by H.H. Holloway and an unidentified co-pilot. They departed at 9:01AM for San Francisco with three unidentified passengers.

The second landing was flown by T.W.A. pilot Royal Leonard and an unidentified co-pilot, dated Sunday, December 21, 1930 at 9:01AM. They departed for San Francisco with three unidentified passengers at 9:08AM.

NC5170 was a poster airplane for an advertising brochure published by WAE. The outside of the brochure is shown below as it appeared at the link.

Inside the brochure is shown below. Set in to the route map for Los Angeles to Salt Lake City rests a photograph of NC5170 taking on a passenger.

The final visit was recorded by Lygum on Wednesday, January 7, 1931 at 12:45PM. This time only the unidentified pilot and copilot were on board.

The airplane was signed earlier in the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register on Monday, May 21, 1928 at the link. It was registered as NX5170 at the time. Please direct your browser to the link for photographs and names of the crew and passengers.
