WACO KNF NC614Y

NC614Y (S/N 3335) showed up once at the Grand Central Air Terminal (GCAT), on Sunday, May 17, 1931 at 3:04PM. The Register record was very sparse, listing only the presence of the airplane: no pilot or passenger names or locations for home base or destination.

This airplane was manufactured by the Waco Aircraft Company, Troy, OH September 29, 1931. The manufacturer's specifications as NC614Y came from the factory on September 29, 1931 are below. It was equipped with minimum equipment and was painted vermilion and silver, a common factory color scheme. It was equipped with wheel pants.

Below, the form records the airplane's transfer to Mid-West Airways Corp. in Aurora, IL either on August 11, 1930 or on October 1, 1931. If the earlier date, the airplane may have been retained by Waco Aircraft for testing or executive transport duties. We know it was a flying airplane, because we found it at GCAT on May 17, 1931 a good five months before it was allegedly "Completed."

At some point in time it was transferred to the Bowers Fly-UR-Self Service in Chicago (late 1931; early 1932?). I could find no information about Bowers Fly-UR-Self. NC614Y must have been wrecked and abandoned while under their ownership, because the sheet below states, "This airplane brought to factory having been cracked-up but never claimed by owner-sold to Waco by auction purchased by John Shosie."

Shosie was the third owner as listed below, taking possession ca. October, 1931 and keeping it to ca. 1937 before selling it to James. J. Juriga. It went through two more owners before disappearing from the record ca. 1944.

NC614Y was not signed in any other Register. There is no additional information on the Web.
