STEARMAN C-3-B NC6439

This airplane is a Stearman C-3-B, S/N 179. It was manufactured November 13, 1928 by the Stearman Aircraft Co., Wichita, KS. It sold on November 12th to the Richfield Oil Company of California and it was picked up at the factory by Richfield pilot Dudley M. Steele.

NC6439 landed and is signed in the Grand Central Air Terminal (GCAT) Register three times during April and May, 1931. Although a name was not recorded, the pilot was probably Steele, because the owner of the airplane each time was identified by the operator as Richfield Oil Company.

Besides its three landings at GCAT, NC6439 appears once in the Clover Field Register, three times in the Parks Field Register, and nine times in the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register. Ten of all those landings were logged by Dudley Steele. The full technography of NC6439 is onlne at the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register Web site at the link. I have no photographs of the airplane.
