FOKKER F-10 NC8048

Like its sister ship, NC8047, this airplane was operated by Western Air Express (WAE), Transcontinental Air Transport (TAT) and Transcontinental & Western Airlines (T.W.A.). It appears in WAE livery, below, but it was flown by T.W.A. as it landed at Grand Central Air Terminal (GCAT). This photograph appears in the collection of the Wisconsin Historical Society at the link.

Also like its sister ship, as it sits in this photograph, it is a model F-10. Some F-10s were later modified to F-10A by the addition of tail wheels and other speed and comfort options. NC8048 in this photo has its original tail skid.

NC8048, S/N 1005, is signed in the GCAT Register over 40 times between April and July, 1931. On only one of its landings, on Monday, April 10, 1931 at 1:53PM, was the pilot identified by the Tower Operator. Operator Anton Lygum identified the pilot as Lewis W. "Lew" Goss.

NC8048 flew mostly the route from Los Angeles to San Francisco, CA and back. Early in its life it flew to Kansas City, MO. Its landing with Goss in control arrived from Kansas City. Below is another view of NC8048 from the link, in the same livery. A colorized view also appears online at the link.
